Snug As A Bug In A Rug

Meet my mom. Mom, this is everyone. Everyone, this is mom.

Does mom look snuggly warm? She's wearing her Christmas present from me. Yeah, it's another one of those, "I had a vision..." things. My mother has not been warm since she was in the womb. She's always curled up with a blanket, sweater, long pants, socks, slippers, ear muffs, well...ok, maybe not the slippers ;) Anyway, I felt that she needed the ability to be mobile while keeping warm under a blanket.

I made a pattern for a shawl-blanket-type-wrap out of holiday wrapping paper (use what you have, right?) and bought an armful of raspberry anti-pill fleece. The fleece is double thick for extra coziness and I added pockets both on the inside and outside. It's never inside out! She can keep her hands on the inside pockets for extra warmth or tuck them in the outside pockets like a jacket. The pockets are big enough to hold a remote (in case she gets to touch it,) a pen and a smallish sudoku book.
In telling my sister-in-law about my mom's present, she replied, "Oh, like that thing on TV. The Snuggie!" The what?? I don't watch a lot of TV. So, I checked it out online. Yes, it exists, but the wrap that I made for my mother seems to suit her better. It doesn't surprise me that just as I've come up with something, someone else has already put the wheels in motion. This happens frequently.

Guess it's a good thing I don't want to make a bazillion of them and market it on TV, huh?

It is quite warm and snuggily~and I really like the fact that I can keep it on and still walk to the kitchen for a snack! It is not confining like a robe, either. Those other things you are talking about seem cumbersome and what about your back? shoulders? I don't like any part of me to be cold! Thanks again for such a great and thoughtful gift.

Oh man! Yours is soooo much better than the one on TV. We know it well. My kids wanted to buy one for me for Christmas. I was like, "How nice of you. But it's a lot of money." And they were ready to put all their money together to buy one for me. I kept saying, "No, really." (As in "please really don't waste your money on that crazy-long monk outfit.)

I really like your design.

I actually like your version better than the one on TV. The one on TV makes everyone look like they belong in a monastery...the "robes" are sooo long. With yours, since it's more like a shawl it seems like it'd be easier to move around in and do things around the house in. Very neat - I like it a lot! Great job! :)

I like your's better.

If the other kind seemed appealling, I would just wear my robe backwards.

I feel the same way about the advertised Snuggie! I have been known ~long ago of course ~ to curl up on the couch with my robe on backwards. It doesn't solve all the problems as does my specially designed one!

Also, I can't tell you how much I have appreciated this version. It's been to me ~ like Charlotte's blankie is to her!
