Employed Elsewhere

Today I got a job for which I never applied. Two words: jury duty.

Over the years, I have received three jury summons. However, I always receive them juuust as I move to a new county. The former county is continually out of luck. Until today.

After sitting through 4 and 1/2 hours of questioning... I was selected. It's supposed to be a short trial, so hopefully my crafty days will soon return. As part of our civic duty, we're obligated to pay attention. No reading craft books, and no sewing a pillowcase dress for C. The brochure even states that knitting needles are not allowed. (Drat, guess I'll have to finish that scarf another time.)

The grandparents are pitching in to care for our girl during the days that I'm away. I believe they may be hoping for an OJ length trial... I'm hoping more for a drive-thru Matlock trial.

Either way, I couldn't help but think today, "If that judge's robe was made of fleece, he'd look like he's wearing a snuggie!"

P.S. Thanks to One Crafty Place for posting about my Ivan The Blue doll! They feature a lot of great projects, be sure to visit them here.

I narrowly missed being selected for a gang murder trial last week, so whatever your case is--it could be way worse!!

Oh, I hate jury duty. I actually got summoned twice in one year because they had misspelled my name on my driver's license so they had to make me a new one when I went to get a license at the DMV when I moved to IL. Both licenses got put in the pool so they were both chosen in a year's time. I never win anything but I won jury duty summons - twice in one year. What are the odds of that?!

Joe and I both received summons (on the very same day) for jury duty. Mine went to my parents in my maiden name and his to his parents' house. We had only been married a year or so, so I guess they didn't track us down.

Anyway, I was about to give birth to Taylor (#1) and Joe, being active duty can't serve, so we got out of it. I thought it would be cool, it was just bad timing.

Hope it's enjoyable and doesn't last too long.

Just came by to THANK YOU for the package you sent! I received it today, and I love it!!

It's a funny coincidence... I have jury duty next week. Ugh! I can't afford to donate my time to the county. *sigh* I'm supposed to call in Sunday night to see if they need me, and so on throughout the week. Maybe I'll luck out, and not actually have to go!

No knitting needles? *double sigh* I was really counting on being able to do handwork if I do get called! I suppose that would include crochet hooks as well.

Hah! We were just talking about this, weren't we? I hope you get a quickie trial. And no expert witnesses named Kee-ster if somebody's injured hiney was involved.

And, another thing: try not to doze off while the judge is reading the jury instructions. They never show that on Law & Order because everybody would die of boredom if they did. It goes on forever.

We did so enjoy our "extra" time with Miss C. She is turning into quite a young lady. Can not wait for her to start reading Dr Seuss to me.

Wow! I always wanted to do jury duty, but I think I'm too busy to do it; luckily I've never been summoned! Enjoy the break from regular life...

Congratualtions to Katie Jean!
