Vintage Thingies Thursday: Clip It!

Thank you to The Apron Queen for continuing Vintage Thingies Thursday. There are many other great blogs to check out by visiting her site.

My vintage thingy is from my mother. It's a sweater clip from her high school days. Recently, I purchased a sweater with no closure. A flash memory of this sweater clip popped into my head and so I called my mum. She still had it and of course, I could borrow it. Before the conversation was complete, she had given it to me. Thanks, Ma.It's probably from the mid to late 1950's. The clasps are covered in tiny little pearls. I love wearing it and would love to see more of them around today.

When I get the phone call from Charlotte, her grandmother's sweater clip will be passed on to her as well.

I agree, that sweater clip represents all the delicate charm of days gone by; it is beautiful, and I would wear it with pride! What a great idea.

Totally cute Diane! When I was in college I wanted to make this elaborate brooch with a space ship flying across the sky to meet a cloud .... I think I cut a piece of metal ap very poorly and it ended up looking like a cloud and I just tried to go with it ... Anyway, the brooch had blown way out of control and I was fretting about it. The girl next to me suggested I turn it into a sweater clip (then I could make it into two separate brooches and the chain could be the flight path of the rocket ship - Problem solved). Anyway, I did not know what she was talking about, but out of desperation I went with it and that is what I made (that is what I called it when I had to present it to the class ... I really don't know what I made - It was wierd) Until today I had NEVER actually seen a sweater clip! It really does exist! I can't believe it ... and I can't believe you have had one this whole time! Maybe I have noticed but never put together that's what the girl was describing to me ... Anyway, I love this Vintage Thingies Thursday!

That's a great clip! I always wonder why things like that go out of vogue; why we get rid of the good stuff and keep the junk. haha. Enjoy wearing it.

I remember having one as a little girl. I thought I was big stuff wearing jewelry back then. Great idea!

A wonderful keepsake for you to enjoy and pass on to Charlotte. I do remember these from when I was growing up. My Grandmother Asmus wore one. However, I don't believe my Grandmother Halvorson or my mother ever wore them. Unlike my Grandmother Asmus who was in charge of the home, my Grandmother Halvorson and mother were also in charge of various outdoor chores and dressed accordingly in overalls and jeans - not conducive to sweater clips - a more feminine accessory. I'm so happy for you.

I always thought the clips were so neat but I'm wondering why my mom doesn't have any of these anymore. I'll have to ask her about that.

I guess you don't see sweater clips
very often because we have buttons,
snaps and ties to hold our sweaters shut. A very fun post! Happy VTT!

Even though we had buttons, snaps and ties in the 50's and 60's we still loved our sweater clips. They seemed to add some class to our sweaters. You always did love vintage "things" and it's so great to know you appreciate these things.
